About

Hartog’s Den originally began as a collaborative project between engineering students at Arizona State University to dump their creative and philosophical musings.  As the years went by and people came and went, it has evolved into a group of friends (not just engineers and not just from ASU) across several states and walks of life that sometimes feel like updating a blog for some reason.

The old site is at www.hartogsden.blogspot.com.  Former columnists who are currently active have had their posts transferred over to this newer site.  Feel free to browse the old stuff though… though we can’t be held responsible for any damage your brain might incur.  We will, however, take credit for any brilliantly good consequences.

The name “Hartog’s Den” is a play on Den Hartog, the shortened name of Jacob Pieter Den Hartog (1901-1989), a professor at MIT in the field of mechanical vibrations and strength of materials.  His prolific (and we must grudingly admit briliant) texts in the discipline are forced (no pun intended) on thousands of mechanical and aerospace engineering students each year.  His name was legendary, and became the symbol of gospel truth in the vibrations class study group that spawned the original blog.

We invite you to browse and leave your comments.  It’s always nice to know one’s writing is appreciated… or at least read.

Oh yeah, and sorry if the blog goes through long stretches of time without any new posts.  I think we’re on the fifth “revival” now.

Peruse, oh digital traveler, and revel in the many insights to be found in Hartog’s Den.
